Fellowship and Prayer

Many opportunities exist for Fellowship and Prayer at St. Mary's.  A few of these opportunities for ministry are:

Bible Study
A Wednesday Night Bible Study is offered each week at St. Mary's beginning at 6:15pm.  The group chooses the scripture to study and is self-taught.  If you are interested in learning more, please be in touch with Don Brown at
dab.brown@erols.com.  Also check out our 20s & 30s page for their sponsored studies at St. Mary's.

Women's Book Group
This is a group of women of all ages that meets once a month for fellowship and to discuss the "book of the month."  The group usually gathers the first Tuesday of each month from 7:30-9:00pm at the Chesterbrook Starbucks on Old Dominion Drive.  For more information, please be in touch with The Rev. Elizabeth Marie Melchionna at elizabeth.marie@stmarysarlington.org.  Click here, to check out what we are reading for this month.

Women's Handcrafts Group
This is a group that meets on the second Tuesday of each month from 3:30-5pm, gathering in different homes for tea and fellowship while working on handwork: knitting, crocheting, and more!  All are welcome.  For more information, please be in touch with The Rev. Elizabeth Marie Melchionna at
elizabeth.marie@stmarysarlington.org.

Ladies' Night
These nights are offered by St. Mary's for all women in the parish.  They are a wonderful time of food, fellowship, and time apart to enjoy community.  Our last gathering was in the Spring of 2008.   Want to learn more or help plan our next gathering?  Please be in touch with Jane Shafran at
jane.shafran@stmarysarlington.org.

Men's Group
In Lent 2004, the St. Mary's Men's Group formed to have a means of additional fellowship.  The emphases of this group are: to develop friendships; to support one another; to further personal development; and to focus on issues that men deal with in their everyday walk of life.  This group meets regularly on Wednesday mornings (Fall, Winter, and Spring) in the Paca Parish Hall at 7:00am for fellowship, breakfast, and study.  This follows the weekly 6:30am Eucharist in the Chapel.  You are welcome to join the group at any time.  Please feel free to contact Mark Jacobsen (
mark.jacobsen@samhsa.hhs.gov) or Fr. Merrow (fr.andrew.merrow@stmarysarlington.org).

Prayer Shawl
This ministry gathers knitters and crochetiers for the purpose of prayerfully knitting shawls to be blessed at worship services and given to those for whom we pray when they are ill or in the hospital so they may be "wrapped in our prayers."  Instructions and yarns are provided and always available.  The group then gathers a few times each year for fellowship.  Please be in touch with Janet Tasker for more information:
jtasker@cox.net.

Shrine Mont All-Parish Weekend
This wonderful weekend (usually the 2nd weekend in June) takes place at the Diocese of Virginia's Conference Center - Shrine Mont - in the mountains of Orkney Springs, Virginia (about a 2 hour drive from Arlington).  The weekend provides fellowship, worship, community, and great fun for families of all sizes.  Want to know more or help out with Shrine Mont 201?  Please be in touch with Marybeth Emerson at
Marybeth.emerson@stmarysarlington.org.  And click here to see our pictures from Shrine Mont 2008.

Women's Retreat
The Women's Retreat - a weekend away in the spring - provides a time apart for silence, prayer, meditation, and fellowship for women in the parish.  These retreats are kept small (usually no more than 20 attendees).  This Fall and Spring we will offer day retreats (instead of entire weekends).  Want to learn more about our upcoming retreat days?  Please be in touch with Pam Frick at
pam.frick@stmarysarlington.org.
