Sung Contemplative Prayer For the Close of the Day
Sunday Evenings on the Third Sunday of the Month
8 o’clock in the evening
Compline, from the Latin “to complete,” is offered when the work of the day is completed, and the quietness of the evening settles over the hearts and minds of those who have come together in thanksgiving for the day that has passed and in anticipation of God’s gift of a new day. Silence in the midst of beautiful music, candles, and darkness are some of the powerful and moving characteristics of the Compline service.
St. Mary's began offering the service of Sung Compline on Epiphany (January 6) 2008. Worshipers gather in candlelit darkness for this wonderful, contemplative service. Compline is sung by St. Mary's Schola (a choir specializing in chant) and the assembled congregation simply listens to prayers offered on their behalf. Compline services will be held September through May. We hope you will mark your calendars and join us for this very short, simple evening service.
Candlelight Concerts on the Third Sunday of the Month
