Children's Church School
St. Mary's strives to provide for the spiritual growth and development of our many children, youth and young adults. Dedicated teachers faithfully lead the young inquirers every week using an Episcopal based curriculum. In the Fall, Winter and Spring, St. Mary's Church School meets following the 9:00 am Eucharist on Sunday mornings (at about 10:15 am depending on the length of the service). Classes are provided for children from age three through twelfth grade. During the Summer, Summer Church School is held during the 10:00 a.m. service for children 3 years through 4th grade. All children return to the Nave to receive Communion/blessing with their parents. Would you like to teach our children on Sunday mornings? Please call the Parish Office.
Children's Chapel
Children's Chapel meets at the beginning of both the 9:00 am and 11:15 am services in the Fall, Winter and Spring, for children from three years old through third grade. All children join their families back in the “big church” for the Eucharist. Childcare is provided for infants and toddlers on Sunday mornings during the services, as well as during Sunday morning educational programs.
Outreach for Children
St. Mary's children are actively involved in an age-appropriate outreach curriculum as part of their Church School meetings. This program starts at age 3 years, continues through 5th grade and beyond to Youth Group. The children will take part in 2 outreach projects per year. Each grade has the same projects every year, thus providing our children with a consistent formation experience as they age up. As children move through the grades, they are exposed to each ministry more than once, providing an opportunity for deeper understanding as they grow. Our current list of ministries include: A-SPAN, AFAC, AFC, APC, Borromeo Housing, Doorways, O.A.R., S.O.M.E, SEEC, Iglesia Santa Maria (Falls Church), Iglesia San Lucas (Honduras), St. Martin de Tours (Haiti) and The Episcopal Church of Sudan. Christmas Pageant
The Christmas Pageant takes place at the 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm services on Christmas Eve each year at St. Mary's. The pageant provides a wonderful opportunity for our children to celebrate the birth of our Lord while leading the congregation in the Service of the Word. Children in Kindegarten through 5th grade are encouraged to participate, with many opportunities for teenage and adult helpers. Sign-ups begin in early December. Vacation Bible School
Vacation Bible School takes place one week each summer to provide a fun, educational environment for our children. If you love working with kids, or have a particular gift for crafts, storytelling, or games, please consider sharing it with our kids. Click here to see pictures from VBS 2008!
